Corporal Luis Paez was struck and later passed from injuries while on a traffic stop in Loxahatchee around 0900 hours. Deputy Butch Waller and Corporal Luis Paez was also struck and killed.
The officers were waiting for help with a disabled police motorcycle when a driver traveling eastbound switched lanes to pass a slower vehicle, overcompensated, and struck all three officers.
Corporal Paez and Deputy Waller were life-flighted to St. Mary’s Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. Deputy Diaz later passed from his injuries four days later.
Deputy Diaz served with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for over 20 years.
